The North Coast Casino is officially open and hosting poker tournaments in Eureka, California, the Chamber of Commerce announced Monday. The Greater Eureka Chamber and Mayor Kim Bergel marked North Coast Casino’s grand opening with a ribbon cutting on Friday, Aug. 16.

According to the casino, the new facility brings premier poker and entertainment to the Eureka area via regular tournaments and events. Despite the competitive nature, casual poker players are still encouraged to attend the events. Anyone can test their skills in a casino setting. Games cater to both veteran players and beginners.
“At North Coast Casino, our mission is to provide an exceptional gaming environment where fun, excitement, and responsible gaming go hand in hand,” a casino spokesperson posted to the website. “Our facility features poker games, friendly staff, and a welcoming atmosphere that ensures every guest feels valued and at home.
“We are committed to excellence in everything we do. From our meticulously comfortable poker tables to our rigorous standards of customer service, every detail has been crafted to enhance your poker experience. Our team is dedicated to maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for all our patrons.”
Additionally, the casino is “deeply committed” to the local community. Through partnerships with the Humboldt Chamber of Commerce and other local organizations, the casino aims to contribute positively to the growth and development of Eureka.
Previous owner Robert Thomson stated in recent years that his casino has the best game security
Furthermore, former owner and general manager Robert Thomson is a Humboldt County native. He is well known for his professional high stakes play and management of multiple poker rooms in California. Of course, Thomson started playing and dealing poker in 1990.
According to the Times-Standard, the casino employs 15 experienced poker players. In fact, Thomson said friends of his used to work in the World Series of Poker. His poker buddies helped him start the business by carrying out consulting work and training dealers.
“We cater to the live poker player and our game security is far above any other poker room in the county,” Thomson said years ago, adding that his lounge is open to everyone.
However, Thompson sold the casino years after he purchased the facility. Besides the sale being undisclosed, the exact date is unknown.
As of August 2024, Raleem Broadhead-Moses is the current owner of North Coast Casino. Moreover, the casino offers four positions to hiring applicants: cage cashier, floor supervisor, poker card dealer, and security officer.
The North Coast Casino is located at 26 Fifth Street in Eureka and open seven days a week.
