The No. 1 ranked Auburn Tigers and No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide matchup in a clash of two titans Saturday. With these being the best teams in the nation, the odds are practically set at 50/50, CasinoApps.com have checked to see if the stats back up those odds.
Alabama has not just the best scoring offense in the SEC, but the best in the nation. The Tide average 90.5 ppg while making an SEC best 30.7 field goals per game. Bama also makes 10.3 three-point shots per game, good for first in the SEC. Keeping with that trend, Alabama averages 30.5 defensive rebounds and 44.2 total rebounds per game, again good for best in the SEC.
Alabama also ranks top three in the SEC in all of these categories per game: field goal percentage (48.4%), free throw makes (18.9), free throw attempts (26.5), offensive rebounds (13.7), assists (17).
Offensively, the Tide are the best team in the country, but this is a far from perfect team.
Alabama has the worst scoring defense in the SEC, allowing 78.5 opponent ppg, 28.3 field goal makes per game, and 21.3 free throw attempts per game while also committing 21.2 personal fouls per game, all good for last in the SEC.
Beyond that, Bama is bottom five in the SEC in foul differential (-2.8) and turnovers per game (13.4).
On the other side, Auburn is a much more balanced team. The Tigers score 84.8 ppg, make 30.4 field goals per game and 9.5 threes per game, while also hitting 37.2% of their threes and averaging 38.4 rebounds per game and 17 assists per game, all good for top five in the SEC.
Defensively, Auburn is top five in scoring defense (allowing 67.7 opponent ppg) while holding teams to just 23.1 field goal makes per game and 40% shooting from the field.
The numbers tell us that this matchup could prove to be an unpredictable one. Alabama’s offense is so good that the Tide always have a shot to blow any team in the country out of the water if they are hot, but their defense is always a major liability. Meanwhile, Auburn is a team that is good on both sides of the ball and will never be an easy team to beat, but that still doesn’t mean that the Tigers can keep up with an Alabama team that has this much scoring potential.
