Over 1.1 Million Americans flock to Rednote, Ahead Of TikTok Ban

As the US Government continues with plans to ban TikTok on Sunday the 19th of January, Americans are flooding the TikTok alternative app Rednote. With over 1.1 million USA downloads of the Rednote app recorded in the last week alone. 

Data Highlights: 

  • 1,137,241 Americans downloaded Rednote in last 7 days (+2,770% WoW)
  • 4,382,282 global downloads of Rednote in the last 7 days
  • TikTok (In-App purchase) revenues dropped by $31m in January (-17% MoM)
  • Instagram saw 63,624,139 global downloads in December (+11% MoM)
  • Lemon8 saw 2,024,640 global downloads in last week (+50% WoW)

 

Using App download tracking website AppMagic.rocks, data analysts at CasinoApps can exclusively reveal that Rednote has surpassed 4 million downloads worldwide in the past week, with Americans making up 1/4 of that number.

CasinoApps analyzed the download and revenue data of both TikTok & TikTok competitors including; Instagram, Rednote & Lemon8. 

Over 1.1 Million Americans Have Migrated Over To Rednote In The Last Week

TikTok is supposedly getting banned in the USA on Sunday 19th January and Americans have took things into their own hands by downloading the social networking app Rednote.

From the 10th-16th of January 2025, Rednote saw 1,137,241 Americans download the app, making an astronomical jump from the previous week’s data (01/03–01/09), where there was just 36,619 Americans downloading the Rednote. Yielding an unbelievable week-on-week increase of 2,770% for the Chinese based app. 

This phenomenon is not confined to the United States, with downloads of the Rednote app soaring worldwide.

Over the last week there has been a total of 4,382,282 worldwide downloads of Rednote.

Many US based creators & celebrities have already migrated over to Rednote, with TikTok stars including Bella Poarch, Loren Gray, Selena Gomez & Sabrina Carpenter amassing big Rednote followings in under a week.

These famous faces bring with them an army of worldwide followers to the alternate TikTok app.

Tiktok In-App Revenue Drops By $31m

It seems that the news of TikTok’s impending end in the US has had an impact on its worldwide revenues (In-app purchases).

CasinoApps compared the TikTok revenue data from this January to the same period in December 2024

(IAP) In-app purchase revenue TikTok makes from it’s global users has dropped 17% in January, as per data from AppMagic.

Instagram Benefits From TikTok Downfall, With 15% Increase In US Downloads 

Much to the delight of Mark Zuckerberg, Meta has benefited as the ban of TikTok in the US looms. Instagram has seen a month-on-month rise in worldwide downloads. 

In November 2024, there were 57,301,518 global Instagram downloads, this rose in December 2024 to 63,624,139 global downloads (+11%)

Meanwhile Instagram saw a slightly bigger increase of downloads in the USA (up 15% in December 2024). 

Lemon8 Global downloads

Lemon8, an Instagram alternative has also benefited from the upcoming TikTok ban. The app saw a noticeable increase in global downloads in the last week.

1,353,233 global downloads  (from 01/03-01/09)

2,024,640 global downloads (from 01/10-01/16)

This was a 50% increase week-on-week, with the majority of downloads coming from the US.
